THE CAMPBELL YOUTH COMMISSION'S Work Plan
The Campbell Youth Commission work plan was divided amongst the several subcommittees that address our top concerns for youth in Campbell. Below are our goals and plans.
This year we are planning a Nature Walk on March 23 at Campbell Park Course. There will be crafts and a guided walk by our very own youth commissioners. We will also be hosting a trash pickup(TBD) for students who need community service hours and anyone who wants to volunteer. In April there will be an Earth Day event where Campbell's businesses are invited to share their methods of being eco-friendly.
CIVIC ENGAGEMENT SUBCOMMITTEE:
We will be hosting a job fair on February 1st for Middle School or High School students who are looking for or observing the many jobs Campbell has to offer at the Orchard City Banquet Hall. We will also be hosting a CUHSD wide social. We will be also collaborating with the Health and Wellness subcommittee to host sports tournaments for Spikeball February 26th and in April at Edith Morley Park.
COLLEGE AND BEYOND SUBCOMMITTEE:
This term, the Middle School and youth subcommittee are planning to do a leprechaun trap making event for kids on March 10th at the Campbell Community Center. We will be hosting a movie night for kids and a movie night for families at the library as well. And we will continue to host the Winter Wonderland event, also at the Campbell Community Center.
HUMAN RELATIONS SUBCOMMITTEE:
In December, we hosted a holiday drive from November 26- December 7. We are fundraising for organizations, such as Heifer and Next Door Solutions, by making Easter-grams and selling them starting April 15th, through the 18th. In April, we will be hosting a First Generation College Information Night.
MENTAL HEALTH SUBCOMMITTEE:
In light of the drastic increases in depression, anxiety, and other mental health issues in teens, the Mental Health Awareness Subcommittee has aimed to foster conversations that destigmatize the issue and promote solutions. This subcommittee will be helping with the Campbell Cares/ Talk Saves Lives on May 16th at the Campbell Community Center. We are having therapy dog sessions at certain CUHSD high schools for stress and testing in May 2019. We are also hosting Zumba to promote family health, and partnering with the High School subcommittee for sports tournaments in February and April.
